Editorial Reviews About the Author Joseph Eckberg received a Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving aboard the USS Seawolf in World War II. Gerold Frank (1907-1998) was an author and ghostwriter. His works include An American Death and Judy.James D. Horan, a novelist and historian distinguished for his knowledge of the American West and of the Civil War, wrote more than thirty books of fiction and nonfiction. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Edgar Allan Poe Award, the Buffalo Award, and the Western Heritage Award. He died in 1981.
