Desciption

In the psychedelic dawn of the global environmental movement, a young woman is murdered at a hippie commune in a mountain logging town. Deputy David Marley must pursue a suspect with whom he shared an ankle chain several years earlier in Vietnam. Investigating the murder while embedded in a comical and tragic circus of events, Marley discovers a world war starting where profiteers of environmental degradation chart ridiculously lucrative long-term plans, while an ancient Pythagorean sect seeks to restore harmony to a planet gone ab surdus (“out of tune”). Review

Circus Absurdus is a fast-paced environmentally themed fiction novel that addresses issues of current, ongoing concern. From the start, the story proceeds with a wild police chase, and never loses that edge. Though the novel is set in the sixties and seventies, its characters relate to a hippie persona from any era. Environmental concerns are not often depicted in literature, and for whatever reason the science community has yet to harness art to communicate important messages. In a bold debut novel, author Robert Tyler has created a bridge between art and science. Throw in a young woman’s murder in a remote, rural hippie haven, added to a bumbling deputy with whom the suspect had been a prisoner of war in Vietnam, and this psychedelic yet somehow clear-eyed novel is sure to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Highly recommended!
