About the story:If any of you play the World of Warcraft MMORPG, you all are bound to have encountered and know what a Worgen is. A new faction introduced with Cataclysm, they are the representation of the popular mythical fantastical creatures known commonly as werewolves.The Warcraft Universe has always strived to maintain a thorough and rich canonical history throughout its timeline and to establish a well deserved and accredited pantheon. To add to this already extensive and rich repertoire, we are introduced to the back story of the Worgen. To those familiar with the opening quest chain in the starting zone for the race, you all will have no doubt followed the storyline (and if you're lucky and/or curious enough done the Forsaken side of the quests as well) as to how the Worgen fit in into the modern version of the Alliance faction.Taking a page right from the quest chain (no pun intended), this book introduces us to a protagonist who is a sleuth, an extremely clever and astutely observant genius with an incredible acumen for logical reasoning and minute deduction (very much inspired by a certain asexual sociopath popularized by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). As we follow his journey through the by-lanes and back-allies of Gilneas City, we observe his transformation from an ignorant and obnoxious arrogant human to a compassionate enlightened but ferocious beast with a penchant for meat - especially the human kind.Now mind you, if you all feel that this comes across as a horror story, it certainly is in many aspects. Taking inspiration from crime noir, detective fiction, thriller novels, and, horror stories, what emerges is a wonderful blend of an enthralling and engaging saga which keeps the page turning. The story ends with a fitting resolution which leads directly into the game and ties it up in a clean and well knotted bind. And if you've never played the faction, no worries, you'll still be able to follow the story and understand it just as easily.As a tip of the hat and nod of the head, the epilogue focuses on a character encountered in spectral form when one finished a quest chain which started in the older version of Astranaar. For those who have completed the quest chain, you all know exactly what I am referring to (here's a hint - The Scythe of Elune). And if you haven't, no worries, the information is explained well enough to be self contained within the confines of the story in the book.For those who have never played the game or are not interested in following a lore (for reasons ranging from being too rich or extensive all the way to too long and boring), it matters little either way. This book has been written such that it can also be read as a stand-alone book so as to pass the time and enjoy a leisurely break on a relaxing morning. This was one of my gripes about the comic series and Ashbringer - some of the references would not have made sense for someone who did not follow the game or the lore (especially true with Ashbringer).So give it a try if you enjoy a healthy read. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you find yourself flipping page after page after page till you reach the end. Oh yes, it's that engrossing.About the book:The book comes in a standard hardcover binding with a paper jacket. It's well bound and easy to flip through. The paper quality is excellent and smooth. The printing is crisp, the art well drawn, and, the ink well balanced. The color palette is well chosen and applied throughout the book. Overall, a great deal for the price. Truly a bargain.
