Review

Marc Hagan-Guirey has managed to improve on his excellent "Horrorgami" book and set a new bar for Kirigami models.First off, the pages are 11"x14", almost twice the area of Horrorgami's pages. This results in some very impressive models with details that may have been harder to pull off at a smaller scale.Secondly, this book comes with many of its most intricate details pre-cut. While this might sound like "cheating" to some, anyone who has struggled through cutting dozens of rectangular windows can tell you that this can be incredibly tedious and challenging. Having so many small parallel lines next to each other magnifies every little imperfection, and no matter how skilled you are, there will probably be a couple imperfections among dozens of tiny cuts like that. There is still plenty of challenging/rewarding work to do with those cuts eliminated, and I'm happy to see them gone.Kirigami is pretty easy to get into, requiring just an X-Acto, a metal ruler, and a cutting surface. As a total novice, I was able to make good-looking models in around an hour or so. However, there is always room to improve your technique, and when you combine this with the sense of relaxation and focus that you feel when cutting out these models, it makes for a really rewarding hobby.
