Desciption

Dreaming is vital to the human story. It is essential to our survival and evolution, to creative endeavors in every field, and, quite simply, to getting us through our daily lives. All of us dream. Now Robert Moss shows us how dreams have shaped world events and why deepening our conscious engagement with dreaming is crucial for our future. He traces the strands of dreams through archival records and well-known writings, weaving remarkable yet true accounts of historical figures who were influenced by their dreams. In this wide-ranging, visionary book, Moss creates a new way to explore history and consciousness, combining the storytelling skills of a bestselling novelist with the research acumen of a scholar of ancient history and the personal experience of an active dreamer. Review

I was first introduced to Robert Moss' work on dreaming with the Sounds True tape set, "Dream Gates." What made this particular audio program so unusually powerful was how Robert Moss spoke conversationally about dreams, dreaming and how to use them as "tools for living" as if he were right here, talking with you face-to-face.Dreams and dream work are often seen as non-scientific and inconsequential. The Secret History of Dreaming shows that those assumptions are entirely NOT true.To my way of thinking, this wonderful book is Robert Moss' thesis. He has exhaustively compiled and expounded on historical references to dreams and dreaming, something I believed to be impossible to accomplish. Moss has maintained the fine balance between well-documented instances of dreams and dream-power with an entertaining and accessible writing style. Contained within this book is information on dreams and creativity, information that I have spent looking and searching for over a lifetime. Each chapter catalyzed and energized me to think further "out of the box," and to have a greater understanding of my own personal creative process, how to capitalize on that process and make things happen more quickly and easily.I really appreciated his extensive chapter end notes as well as the bibliography included at the end. He has concretely demonstrated the importance of dreams and their power and shown us the historical thread of how dreaming was and can be used for healing and survival.Do NOT miss this important work!
