Review

I bought this book because I am getting very interested in today's global freight business. I can see the demand growing everyday in this field. I have a friend who works for a freight forwarding company and I hear it from him that they are doing 3x more business now compare to what did even 5 years ago. Nevertheless, after reading this book, I can safely say it is a good reference to get started with, now if you are thinking reading this book would turn you into a freight broker, you are wrong. I can also address one of the negative reviews I read where the person said that this book says get a job as an agent when no logistics company would hire anyone without experience. That review almost made me not buy this book. But now that I read it, I can see the author said try to get a job at a freight brokerage company as an apprentice. Most any companies out there do hire people that have some basic business knowledge and then they train them on becoming an expert in a field that the company works in.Few notable points I got from this book were when the author talked about how the freight industry works, who the trucking industry players are and then where he laid out the steps to becoming an agent. As I said, it is a great starting point for sure for anyone looking into this business sector. But yes, you do have to do some more leg work and in my case I want to obtain all the licenses and then bring the friend I have that works in the freight forwarding industry to become a partner in my business. My idea is if there is a will there is always a way. I am certain that whatever training I would need, I will get in on the job slowly but surely. At least now I know what the steps are that I need to take, what licenses and permits I need to apply for and obtain. I believe the author did a decent job writing this book.
