She sets off to search for the one place where Darkness resides in the world of Light. Only then can she leave the Spirit World. There is a price. No one pure at heart can near the Darkness, and there is only one thing she can do to stay in control. She has to turn to the darkness inside of her, and she must control it before she can enter the Shadow Realm—full of cold hearted and dangerous Shadow Demons, far stronger than she. Layla has to fight her most ancient enemy yet and must face her past in order to defeat him and free the others from their fate. Will the war between Layla and her dark past ever end?

Review

Ascend from Darkness is the fifth book in the Cursed in Darkness series. In this installment Layla must confront the darkness in order to save her friends and those she loves. In this newest book all of the familiar characters are back. Each and every book continues to show what a warrior Layla has become, and she continues to grow in this latest book. I absolutely enjoy Layla’s character; she is strong, intelligent, and sexy. She is also a complex character who has been through numerous trials and takes on great responsibility. It has been so enjoyable watching her transform and mature. The beginning of the book finds Layla in her mother’s world, the world of the Spirit Demons. I really enjoyed this new setting for the book. It was something of a departure from the last books and really freshened up the story. Once again, Hancock is positively descriptive in her writing, and painted a vivid picture of this fascinating new world.I have been reading this series from the beginning and I have really seen Hancock grow as a writer from book to book, from the fourth book on each book has been better than the last. I am genuinely curious to see how the rest of the series plays out.**Reviewed by Teresa D. for VampireRomanceBooks.com**
